14 February 2011 Valentine's Day - This day will be etched on my memory forever because it was the day that we had to put down Basle.

Basle was the second youngest of 5 siblings, 1 of which died a few days after birth. His mother, Rovaniemi, was a stray. His brother, Bern, died about 5 years ago while on an emergency trip to the vet. But, he succumbed to whatever he was suffering from. A postmortem was done and we were told that he had pus in his lungs. How and why? Goodness knows.

Amy took Basle to the vet and we felt like it was the end of the world when he was diagnosed with F.I.P. How? Goodness knows. We didn't want to face the truth as we knew that we would have to put him down immediately if we did so. We waited and Amy faithfully fed him for a couple of days until he started to reject food. We knew, then, that we had no choice, as he was emitting heartrending sounds as if he was in pain. With a leaden heart, we decided to let him go and join his brother.

Now we are left with their 2 sisters, Lausanne and Lucerne. Lucerne (the tricoloured) was very sick recently. She refused to eat but with force feeding and care she somehow pulled through. But, this one is a fighter like the mother. Her mum taught her well to be unfriendly and trust no one. A couple of years back, she was hospitalised with suspected pyometra. She pulled through. I wonder how many of her 9 lives had she used up.
